TRAIN OPERATIONS, WORKSHOP AND MACHINERIES

EQUIPMENTS

Serendah Yard has started operating on early 2016. Serendah DMIA Depot which is situated at KM347.75, to the north of KTMB Serendah Freight Station has an area of 1500 square metres. It is managed by the Train Operation and Maintenance team. It involved all activities ie train shunting, forming of works train and maintenance of all DMIA road rail assets.  All train movements inside the Depot are in compliance with KTMB Serendah Station Working Procedures which is adhered to by all personnel.
Serendah Depot Maintenance team main primary function is to ensure that all road rail vehicles are maintained, in safe and good working condition so as to ensure movements to worksite are not unnecessary delayed. The works train, track machines and road vehicles are moved to worksite in good working condition as per the project works program. 

Serendah DMIA Depot which is managed by 1 Train Operation Manager and 1 Maintenance Manager assisted by respective Supervisors. The Depot has 10 siding tracks which can accommodate 10 locomotives, 15 track machines, 130 wagons of all types and 40 ballast wagons

All DMIA road assets are maintained at Maintenance Depot whereas all DMIA railway assets are maintained at Rolling Stock Depot. Every 3 months all assets either road or rail will be checked for stress, faults and reliability before moving out to worksites and all rolling stock will undergo major checks together with KTMB maintenance department before they are commissioned to work on KTMB live track. 

Certificates of competency are issued by KTMB before any rolling stock is moved out and records of commissioning are kept at the Depot. Stacking of rails, welding them into long welded rails and installing of turnouts are done at the Depot. Ballast stockpile is stocked at the Depot for use over the project area. 

 

Other than functioning as an Operation and Maintenance Depot, Serendah Depot also conducts training for all personnel before working on site. All Operations personnel will undergo competency test before working independently on worksites.

Therefore it is important to note that Serendah DMIA Depot acts as a workshop, train operations centre, preparatory trackworks and a training centre for all DMIA project works.      

MACHINERIES

 Locomotive is a rail transport vehicle that provides the motive power for a train

  
 A Tamping Machine or Ballast Tamper is a machine used to pack (or tamp) the track ballast under railway tracks to make the tracks more durable. Prior to the introduction or mechanical tampers, this task was done by manual labour with the help of beaters

 

Dynamic Track Stabilizers are used after the Tamping Machines have finished tamping and straightening the track. The Dynamic Track Stabilizers are surface vibration devices that compact and stiffen the track-bearing ballast bed, thereby securing the track more firmly in the ballast and improving the resistance.

A Ballast Regulator (also known as a Sweeper) is a piece of rail transport maintenance of way equipment used to shape and distribute the gravel track ballast that supports the ties in rail tracks.

Stabilizes the track by inserting controlled and accurate force directly into the track structure. The operator has the ability to set the desired down-feed pressure for each rail and the machine maintains that constant pressure until the operator changes it.

Created for mobile and fixed welding installations, is the most advanced system available for welding rails of any profile including vignoles, and for pretensioning them up to 1 km in length.

Plan Track Tamping Machines are designed for high production tamping on tangent track on busy lines where the maximum number of sleepers must be tamped in short available maintenance windows.

 

 

Ballast Hopper is a type of railroad freight car used to transport loose bulk commodities such as coal, ore, grain, and track ballast.

Designed to carry other railway equipment

Also called a Train Car or Train Wagon, is a vehicle used for the carrying of cargo on a rail transport system ( a railroad/railway).

Excavator is the machine that can excavate the soil of various types forcefully and then using hydraulic system a hydraulic force is generated and utilizing this force bucket is pull back towards the machine.

Front End Loader is a bucket-equipped machine, usually electrically powered, used for digging and loading earth or fragmented rock and for mineral extraction

A Compactor is a machine or mechnism used to reduce the size of material such as waste material or bio mass through compaction. A trash compactor is often used by a home or business to reduce the volume of trash it produces.

Back Pusher is heavy machinery for infrastructure construction, mineral extraction projects, quarry, mining and machinery related to the pipeline industry

Dozer can excavate soil of any type of strata. it works even on those lands where others machines fails to work. it has also a capability of leveling the terrains that varies very much.

Tipper Truck is a truck used for transporting loose material (such as sand, gravel, or demolition waste) for construction

An off- road vehicle is considered to be any type of vehicle which is capable of driving on and off paved or gravel surface

Rail Pulling Machine is using single sleeper & continuous operation method, this model comes with track & sleeper laying function. This machine can be designed for track laying of different rail/track gauge standard, i,e range from UIC standard gauge to broad gauge.
